A working holiday in Australia may be a dream come true. However, it is not as straightforward as it may appear. To qualify for an Australian Working Holiday visa, you must follow a set of very tight criteria and conditions.

What is a working holiday visa in Australia?

Students and young adults who want to explore the world and work in Australia for up to a year can apply for this visa.

How do you know whether you're qualified for a Working Holiday visa in Australia?

If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for this visa:

  • You are at least 18 years old but not yet 31.
  • You have never been to Australia before on a Work and Holiday (Temporary) visa (subclass 462).
  • You hold a valid passport from a nation that qualifies in Australia's Working Holiday Program.
  • You are a real tourist looking for a trip to Australia.
  • You can support yourself on your working vacation.
  • You Have enough money to purchase a return or onward ticket after your trip.
  • During your stay in Australia, you will not be accompanied by a dependent kid. 
  • To be eligible, you must meet specific health and character standards

Is it possible for me to apply for a second Working Holiday visa?

Yes, but only if you match the following criteria:

  • You've met all of the requirements for your first Working Holiday visa.
  • You haven't had more than one Working Holiday visa before.
  • While on your first Working Holiday visa, you performed three months of specified job in rural And remote areas.
  • You haven't yet reached the age of 31.

What constitutes 'specified work'?

'Specified work,' according to the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Control, is "work performed in a specified sector or industry in a recognized geographical area."

Australian Working Holiday visas are presently accepted in five industries:

  • Plant and animal husbandry. Harvesting and/or packaging of fruit and vegetable crops and the production of dairy products from raw materials are some examples.
  • Fishing and pearling. Conducting operations directly related to taking or catching fish and other aquatic creatures is an example.
  • Tree-farming and tree-felling are two different things. For example, you may fall trees on a plantation or forest.
  • Mining. Oil and gas extraction is an example of approved activity in this industry.
  • Residential building construction.

 Is it possible for my family to accompany me on this visa? 

As previously indicated, you are not permitted to bring a dependent child to Australia on this visa. On the other hand, Partners are welcome to join you, but each must apply for their own visa.
