All Student visa applicants must demonstrate that they are traveling to Australia to receive a high-quality education. The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria are not meant to exclude students who, after studying in Australia, develop skills that the country requires and subsequently apply for permanent residency.

Provide a personal statement in English that addresses the GTE requirement as an applicant. You can write your statement in your native language and submit a translated copy with your application if you don't feel comfortable writing it in English.

What kind of proof and data should you include in your GTE statement?

  • Previous Study History
  • Academic certificates showing your qualifications
  • name of the education provider(s)
  • period of study
  • certificates of attainment

Previous Study Gap

You need to show the reasons for the break-in of your education, including that you did not maintain enrolment.

Current employment

  • your current employer
  • company address
  • length of employment
  • Your position details
  • the name and contact details of someone who can confirm the circumstances of your employment

Ties to country of residence

Proof of financial, familial, or social relationships. You must demonstrate that you have strong motivation to return home.

The financial situation in your home country

  • Before submitting your application, you must have proof of job or business activity for the last 12 months.
  • Potential employment offers, including salary and other benefits,  after course completion.
  • Your bank statements or income tax returns.

Employment in a third country

  • Potential employment offers, including salary and other benefits, after course completion.
  • To provide a complete picture of your situation, include as much information and proof as possible in your GTE statement. This information will assist us in making a decision about your student visa application. Otherwise, we may need to ask you for further information, which will cause our decision on your visa application to be delayed.

While writing your GTE statement, make your point transparently and honestly. Reflect on what is true to you in your written assertion and eliminate baseless reasoning. Avoid plagiarizing another person's GTE statement because everyone's circumstances and motives for studying are unique. Don't conceal anything; if your visa was previously refused or you failed a few topics, be honest and admit it.
